Tacoma Community College Walkway Bridge
This bridge was part of a project to provide fire access to the Tacoma Community College campus. The existing pedestrian path was widened and the existing bridge was replaced to accommodate fire department vehicles. We designed the bridge as sub-consultants to Gray and Osborne, Inc. The College wanted a bridge that would blend with the nearby Japanese gardens and also be constructible over one summer to minimize disruption to campus activities. We worked with the College on different design options to achieve a bridge that had the aesthetic features they desired and also met their timeline and budget. The bridge is made of precast arches with cast-in-place spandrel walls, which were finished with a stone facing. The rails and lanterns were chosen by the College to compliment the Japanese theme.
